How many times have you been to the cupboard to find that you have NO condensed milk? After testing this simple recipe, I used the condensed milk to make a lemon cheese cake. We could not tell the difference between store bought and homemade. This is a very easy recipe, and includes time and a lot of stirring.
2 Cups FULL cream milk
1 Cups White sugar (I use castor sugar)
Combine milk and sugar in a medium saucepan. Stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to the boil, STIRRING CONTINUOUSLY.
Reduce the heat and allow the liquid to continue simmering. Keep stirring till you notice the liquid reduces and thickens. The liquid will change to an ivory colour.
When the liquid is ready, transfer it to a container with a lid. Refrigerate.
Homemade sweetened condensed milk will be good at least until the expiration date of the milk used to make it.
